Check
out this horror flick this coming Thursday!
Review:
First
and foremost, lets’ talk about the overall elements of the film. An abandoned
city, eerie silent-hill like setting and it is the production from the creator
of “Paranormal Activity”. All these elements make the movie sounds like it’s
going to be a great terrorizing horror movie. But sadly, the movie does not
live up to the expectation.
The
plot of the movie is quite insignificant. It is about six tourists taking on a
tour and eventually find out some scary stuffs in the abandoned city of
Chernobyl. Then, each of them encounters unfortunate events eventually. Thus,
the story is quite normal and nothing new.
About
the camera view, it is quite shaky. Indeed, it can let the audience to feel
involved into the film itself. However, by having too many shaky scenes, it may
cause the audience to feel dizzy.
Despite
the weak plot and the shaky camera issue, the acting of the casts is actually
not bad. Their emotions are well portrayed. The fear, the anger and etc can be
felt via their facial expressions. Thus, their acting is really quite convincing.
On
the other hand, the background setting is well set up and does make me feel
that it is actually really being shot in the real Chernobyl. The setting also
creates an eerie silent-hill like feeling.
There
are a few scenes in this movie which can provide the scary factor. However, most
of it are quite predictable. The creatures which are causing the scary scenes
are not well introduced.
The
ending is quite sudden and not satisfying as it does not properly explain what
really happens in the deserted place.
What
I like about the movie:
- Some scary and
shocking scenes
- Good acting
- Nice background
setting
What
I dislike about the movie:
- Insignificant
plot
- Shaky Camera
- Weak ending
Verdict:
This movie deserves a 5.0/10.0!
It is
an average horror movie which can create some excitement and shock!
If
you are expecting a very terrorising experience, most probably you will be
disappointed!
You will most probably leave the theatre in dizziness (due to the shaky camera) instead of in terror!
