Introduction
This is the first of the three-part
epic fantasy film directed and produced by Peter Jackson based on J. R. R.
Tolkien's fantasy novel, “The Hobbits”.
It follows the journey of a curious
hobbit, Bilbo Baggins, who is out of the blue approached by the wizard Gandalf.
He is invited to join a group of dwarfes on an epic quest to reclaim the lost Kingdom
of Erebor from the dragon, Smaug. During
their journey, they have encountered Goblins, Orcs, deadly Wargs, Giant
Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers. Apart from that, Bilbo himself has also
met one of the famous character in LOTR series, Gollum.
What can Bilbo do to help this group of dwarfes?
What will happen between Bilbo and Gollum?
Let’s start on an unexpected
journey in Cinema now!

Review:
"The Hobbit: An Unexpected
Journey " is as awesome as expected. The story-telling in this film is good
with some humours here and there. It is nicely done that even those
non-Tolkien’s novel fans can follow the storyline easily. The plot is being
delivered in a very detailed manner. So detail that it has become quite lengthy
in some scenes. I personally think that some of these scenes can be cut off a
bit because it has slowed down the pace of the story a bit. And I think some of
these lengthy scenes do not really impact the story much.
The
cast of the movie overall is great. Martin Freeman has done a great job
portraying as Bilbo Baggins. His
acting is overall not bad and I believe that the audience will like him because
of his performance in this film. On the other hand, all other actors who played
those dwarfes have been successfully made the characters come alive from the
novel. Last but not least, of course, Ian Mckellen still shines in playing the role as Gandalf. Apart
from that, some of the actors of the previous LOTR have also come back in this
film playing their same roles. (Hugo Weaving as Elrond, Cate Blanchett as Lady
Galadriel)
The action scenes are accompanied by nice background music and are able
to deliver the similar kind of Epic feeling like those in previous LOTR movies.
CGI effect is quite good and it is an eye-candy viewing the action sequence and
CGI scene in 3D. However, a few of the CGI scenes look a bit like games
cutscenes.
In addition, the scenery and setting in this movie is like in LOTR
movies. It is breathtaking and nice.
Overall, the movie is fantastic and it is definitely an entertaining
adventure not to be missed!

What
I like about the movie:
- Good story-telling
- Nice performance
of the casts
- Great action
scene with nice background music creating the same kind of epicness in
LOTR movies
- Nice scenery
with nice CGI effects (better seen in 3D)
What
I dislike about the movie:
- Some of the scenes are too lengthy (slow down the pace a little)
- A few scenes depends too much on CGI effect till it becomes a bit unreal
Verdict:
This movie deserves a 8.0/10.0!
This movie deserves a 8.0/10.0!
It
may be AN UNEXPECTED JOURNEY, but it is as expected, the movie delivers the
same kind of EPICNESS and GREATNESS as the previous few LOTR series!
It is
a pleasant and entertaining movie for everyone! And it is a must-see for
Tolkien’s fans!
However,
those who cannot tolerate sitting inside the cinema for too long might get
frustrated a little because the movie is quite lengthy (around 3 hours). Some of
these long scenes are either not that important or consist of too much facts
which might bore those audience who just want simple fun.
