Synopsis (translated by W.L Jack from article in tvb.com)
The drama is set in the Qing Dynasty. The focus of the drama is on the Sung and Leung Family. Kwan Wai Lan (Nancy Sit) is the owner of a small business with Leung Jing Yiu (Bowie Lam) as her eldest son, Leung Jing Hong (Sunny Chan) as her second son, Leung Sau Man (Casper Chan) and Leung Sau Yin (Cilla Kung) as her daughters.
Kwan's eldest son Yiu was a worker at the brewery under Sung's family. Yiu has gained a lot of trust and faith from his boss, Sung Ding Tin (Cheung Kwok Keung). However,due to a natural disaster, the fate of the Leung and Sung family have been rewritten.
Sung’s family members has all become the victims of the disasters and passed away. Only his daughter, Sung Chi Ching (Linda Chung) and the third mistress Ding Ga Bik (Elena Kong) are still alive. While his eldest son Sung Chi Chun (Pierre Ngo) was seperated from him. Sung Ding Tin then fell sick. Before he died, he decided to adopt Yiu as his son so that Yiu can help him look after his business and help him raise his daughter. Yiu agreed with Ding Tin and thus becoming Sung's adopted son.
Since Yiu became the adopted son for Sung, his real parents has been accused by the others for stealing away and using Sung's property for their own purpose. In order to clean his parent's name,Yiu has decided to break the bond between him and his parents. Yiu's family especially his second brother,Hong misunderstood that Yiu became Sung’s son for the sake of wealth. Hong hated Yiu since then.
20 years have passed, Yiu has handled Sung's family brewery business very well. In the meantime,Hong has begun to start a business on brewery too. He wanted to show Yiu that he too can become successful in brewery business without the need to depend on other's wealth. Kwan,their mother tried to stop Hong from doing brewery business because she doesn't want her two sons to have conflicts, but Hong does not listen to his mother.
All of the sudden,Sung Ding Tin’s long-lost son,Chi Chun has returned and wanted to claim back the ownership of the business. This then cause another conflict in Yiu's life.
On the other hand, Sung's youngest daughter Ching has fell in love with Hong. But due to the conflicts between the two family, their romance has been faced with a lot of obstacles, especially from his long-lost brother,Chi Chun. In order to tie the relationship between Ching and Hong, Yiu is willing to sacrifice by giving away the ownership of Sung's business to Chi Chun.
After Chi Chun has taken back the ownership of Sung's business, he tried to win over his competitor,who is Leung's family brewery business. In order to compete, he asked the help from his best friend Tsang Yuk Fong (Sire Ma)’s father (Lau Kong). Tsang's father has the intention to steal away Sung's business. Eventually Tsang's father has cause the downfall to the Sung family. The Sung family business is stolen. Luckily Leung's family is willing to help Chi Chun rebuild the business.
Tsang's father has been causing Leung and Sung family a lot of trouble and making it hard for them to rebuild their business. Yiu insisted to fight back against Tsang's father. However, Tsang's father eventually discover Yiu's dark secret and cause Yiu to be in danger....
