Review:
Being
the first movie for "Guardians of
The Galaxy", I think the director James
Gunn has done a great job in introducing this new Marvel universe to the audience. He has tackled the movie very well
in many aspects.
From
the aspect of storyline, it is not that complex and the audiences can
definitely keep track with the flow without any difficulty. Considering it’s the
first movie for this new franchise, it is a wise step as it can allow the
audiences to feel more attached to the plot easily.
The pacing
is good and every moment in the movie is either filled with humors or actions
which will keep you entertained. There are a lot of comedic scenes in the movie
which consist of well-written lines that are funny and brilliantly stupid. These
have brought laughter to the audiences.
It is
also action-packed with well-choreographed sequences that are very memorable. I
personally love the scene whereby the heroes are escaping from the cell. It’s
really spectacular!
For
the character development, they started off with the introduction of Peter Quill (played by Chris Pratt) and revolved a lot about
him throughout the show. Thus, by the end of the movie, you will feel that you know
this character very well. However, it doesn’t mean that the movie doesn’t focus
on the other characters as well. In fact, some characters even shine better
than Peter Quill in my opinion. I
personally think Rocket Raccoon totally
steals the spotlight due to his great personality, his wisdom and yeah, who
doesn’t like a talking raccoon armed with hi-tech guns?!
Other
than that, Groot, Gamora and Drax are favorable too. Groot’s limited
vocabulary can be quite humorous. Gamora on the other hand is really hot and
pretty. Drax who is presumed to be a cruel, revenge-driven destroyer turned out
to be very silly at times plus provided some of the funniest moment in the
show.
Most
importantly, the director has allocated adequate amount of time for us to see
how the characters develop and interact with each other. The chemistry between
them is really good. In overall, the characters themselves plus the bond
between them are what make you love them when the movie ends.
Credits
should also be given to the actors and actresses for their splendid
performances. Chris Pratt is able to
deliver the wackiness of Peter Quill and we totally love his acting. Zoe Saldana is also a good choice for
the enigmatic Gamora. And yeah..she’s
really hot! (This is the first time I fell in love with a green-skinned female
character on screen) Otherwise, Bradley
Cooper’s amazing voice-over is what makes Rocket Raccoon such a cool hero in the show. Vin Diesel’s voice-over is fun too although his dialogue is so
limited. (It’s funny to imagine him voicing over Groot with such a limited amount of words). Bautista plays a great job in his action scenes too.
Besides
all these, the movie also has great lineups of soundtracks. It features a few classical songs which are very catchy and
well-suited to the film.
The downside of the film is the
villains. In comparison with other Marvel
franchise, the villains in this film are rather blunt and not that
memorable. Despite there are moments which hint that the main villain of the
show for being very strong, he turned out to be relatively weak and doesn’t put
up much of a fight for the heroes.
What
I like about the movie:
- A great kickstart for a new Marvel franchise.
- Simple storyline for audience to keep track.
- Nice
pacing packed with comedic and action sequences.
- Well-balanced
character development and great bonds between the heroes.
- Great
casting for the show.
- Hilarious
lines.
- Catchy
soundtracks.
What
I dislike about the movie:
- Weaker and less memorable villain
character.
Verdict:
This movie deserves a 9.0/10.0!
“This
is a great start for the new Franchise! It’s a fun sci-fi ride in Marvel
universe!” –WLJack
“It’s a very funny and enjoyable movie! Love Chris Pratt and the Groot very much!” – Fellow reviewer, Jose Yap
Highly
recommended to those who love Marvel movies and those who love “Star Wars” –alike
movies!
If
you are expecting it to be as deep and dark like The Dark Knight Trilogy or as sentimental as Xmen:Days of Future Past, then
you are most likely going to be disappointed. However, if you go in the cinema with the expectation of enjoying
a comedy movie/ enjoying old-time hero movies, then you will enjoy it as much
as I do!
Million thanks to Nuffnang for the opportunity to attend the #NNPremiereScreening of the movie!
