Mimpi
Artilla – Kisah Cinta Seni @ Experimental Theatre (Panggung Eksperimen),
Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur (13 & 14 September 2014)
Visit Malaysia Year 2014 Raises the
Curtain on “Mimpi Artilla – Kisah Cinta Seni”!
Kuala Lumpur,
September 2014 – Due to the
popular demand, the musical theatre piece, Mimpi Artilla, the
bespoke production that was first unveiled as the royal performance during The
Royal Arts Gala in January 2014 at the Muzium Diraja (former Istana Negara) is
coming back this September 2014.
Written and directed by the acclaimed Adlin
Aman Ramlie, renowned for his works in Puteri Gunung Ledang the
movie, Akademi Fantasia, Maharaja Lawak Mega, Puteri Gunung Ledang
the Musical and P.Ramlee the Musical amongst others, Mimpi
Artilla was produced by My Performing Arts Agency (MyPAA) for the
purpose of The Royal Arts Gala, in collaboration with the Ministry of Tourism
and Culture (MoTaC), and the National Department for Culture and Arts
(JKKN).
The second installation of Mimpi
Artilla is scheduled for 8:30 pm and 3:00 pm, 13 and 14
September 2014 respectively at the Experimental Theatre (Panggung
Eksperimen), Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur.
Date: 13
& 14 September 2014
Time: 8.30pm
& 3.00pm
Venue: Experimental
Theatre (Panggung Eksperimen), Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur.
The 90-minute, bi-lingual musical theatre
is one of the many artistic and cultural presentations under the multi-faceted Visit
Malaysia Year (VMY) tourism campaign as an avenue to showcase the diverse
talents that the land possesses.
The 14 September show provides the
audience an opportunity to interact with the creative team and actors after the
performance.
“When Mimpi Artilla
was performed during The Royal Arts Gala, it portrayed the heritage of Malaysia
in a contemporary light. We realized with the positive response from our guests
that evening, it was a show we wanted to share to the public hence we had
requested MyPAA to do a restage and be listed under the VMY campaign,” commented YBhg.
Datuk Norliza Rofli, Director General of JKKN.
Coming back to perform tunes composed
by Onn San, award-winning composer whose works include The Secret
Life of Nora and Everworld, are Ezlynn famous for her chart
topping hit Hi Hi Bye Bye.
Playing opposite her is Vince Chong,
Malaysia’s popular singer famous for his involvement in Akademi Fantasia 1,
Muzikal Terima Kasih Cinta, The Producers and more.
Joining this stellar cast is Malaysia’s
golden voice jazz singer, Salamiah Hassan. Choreographing and
leading the 38-person ensemble is Zamzuriah Zahari, an upcoming icon in
both the traditional and contemporary discipline of dance.
The much-anticipated show revolves
around Puteri Artilla (Ezlynn), who hails from the Mayan Kingdom, where the
arts abound. This spunky and free spirited princess is betrothed to Prince Syah
Rohan (Vince Chong) from the neighbouring Kingdom of Rohan; a kingdom that has
denounced the arts since the time of their forefathers. Puteri Artilla embarks
on an expedition with the Prince, one that forces them to learn about each
other. Along with the Prince’s royal entourage, the expedition brings them to
art-enriched corners of her Kingdom; a journey that eventually changes the
Prince’s perception of the arts and of the Puteri.
“I feel very
honoured to be given the privilege to stage Mimpi Artilla once again. When
MyPAA first approached me to create a musical theatre performance that would be
the royal showcase during The Royal Arts Gala, I thought the show would be a
one-off production and didn’t expect for a restage. I’m very thankful to MoTaC
and JKKN, in particular YB Datuk Seri Nazri, for acknowledging that the nation
needs to be injected with more arts and culture in order to prosper socially
and economically and I’m humbled that he has selected Mimpi Artilla as one of
the vehicles to do this,” quoted Adlin Aman Ramlie, Creator and Director of Mimpi Artilla.
5 reasons why Mimpi Artilla is a must
watch!
1.
It’s
got a great cast of talented performers – Malaysia’s darlings Ezlynn, Vince Chong
and Salamiah Hassan, a strong 38-member ensemble, and not forgetting a group of
10 amazing musicians and vocalists.
2.
It’s
got a great script by the award-winning Adlin Aman Ramlie - funny, moving,
entertaining; Adlin’s work is always very magical.
3.
The
live music completes the experience. The melodies and music arrangement done by
Onn San are enchanting and whimsical; like Disney meets Malaysia.
4.
It
provides you an opportunity to engage with the creative team and actors after
the performance.
5.
For
RM25, you get to see this award-winning team put up a show of the same if not
better caliber as those performed on bigger stages and venues.
“The play
encourages local communities to embrace the arts, and believe that love and
passion for the arts, just like sports, need to start with the young hence one
of the reasons why the ticket price is affordable. We wanted to make this show
accessible to everybody. In Malaysia, very few have the opportunity to
experience arts live, one-on-one, and up- close and personal. By bringing
quality live entertainment to the people, we hope to establish the fact that
everyone can play a part within the arts community be it as a hobby, a
profession, or even as an appreciative observer,” said Ms.
Izan Satrina, Founder and Director of MyPAA.
Tickets are priced at RM25 and RM40.
