The Origin of Oktoberfest!

Oktoberfest was initially a wedding celebration during the 1810s to commemorate the union between Crown Prince Ludwig (who later on became King Ludwig I) and Princess Therese of Saxe-Hildburghausen at Theresienwiese (translated as Therese's meadow / field). This is the main reason why Oktoberfest is known as ‘die Wiesn’ or ‘the field’ amongst the Germans!

There were a number of activities and elements which would be carried out during Oktoberfest celebrations. Some of the notable ones include horse races , street parades, live music, dancing and last but not least, the appreciation of Munich-brewed beer.

In this day and age, Oktoberfest has really been a global celebration which is well accepted worldwide. Based on 2011 statistics, there have been almost 7 million visitors consuming over 7 million litres of beer and more than half a million chickens during the celebration. The celebration usually lasts between 16-18 days from middle of September to the first Sunday of October.

However, for this year (2013), the Oktoberfest festival proper will run an overall 16 days of cultures, cuisines and beers from 21 September 2013 to 6 October 2013.

What’s so special about Oktoberfest Beer?

Oktoberfest beers are special for some reasons. They must be brewed within the city limits of Munich and must be abide to the Reinheitsgebot or Bavarian Purity Law that strictly governs and monitors the production of beer in Germany. The law has set the limitation on the ingredients which can be used. All Oktoberfest beers are approximately 13% proof (about 6 %). This means that these beers are a little bit stronger than the “non-Oktoberfest” beers that the drinkers usually consume! So everyone who cherishes beers should not miss the chance to taste great beers!

Paulaner, the “YOUNGEST” of the Oktoberfest Beers!

Just in case you guys do not know yet, Palaner is first brewed by monks from the Paulaner monastery in 1634. It was then continued to be made for almost 380 years. However, it is still the “youngest” of all Oktoberfest Beers. Anyway, it is unlike the rest of the Paulaner range, Paulaner Oktoberfest Bier is not a wheat beer but instead it is a lager.

During the Oktoberfest celebration, you can have the golden opportunity to feel different drinking experience via a number of tents operated during that time!  Paulaner is renowned for three of its popular tents:

• Armbrustschützenzelt – this tent has a crossbow shooting range available for more than 110 years. (In addition, ‘Armbrust’ actually means crossbow! This totally fits as the name of the tent!)
• Käfer's Wies'n-Schänke – this is a smaller tent that invites VIP visitors from all walks of life to be served with signature gourmet food such as “Käfer-Duck”!
• Winzerer Fähndl – It is a famous tent for the VIPs because of its attention to oompah band called “Nockherberger” and prominent iconic tower with a giant mug of Paulaner sitting atop it.

The video is about a robot, known as  ‘Felix the Robot Conductor’ (Not Wall-E , although does look similar) who used INTEL TABLETS to produce music which can definitely hype everyone up! Besides, it has also showcased that musical instruments can be controlled by the tablets to run on their own in production of great music.

So what is this all about?

The video is known as “Intelligent Sounds”, a short film that Intel has launched on 26^th September 2013. It visually demonstrated the magic that Intel-powered tablets possess. As many people have already known, Intel has a long history in making processors for PC and laptops to provide the consumers with great computing experiences. However, I am sure many are still unaware that Intel also presents inside tablets.

As a celebration for the world-class advancements that Intel had made in providing the top notch mobile experience, Intel has created this “something” which is beyond our expectation! This “something” is an incredible magical universe whereby tablets are the masters of creation,  highlighting it’s what within the inside that matters! With Intel Inside®, extraordinary experiences can be brought to life!

Collaboration with Flume!

This time around, Intel has cooperated with Flume for this latest project. Who is FLUME, you asked?  He is actually an award-winning beatmaker and producer who has worked with some of the musical industry most exciting artists. However, this time, his newest song features a very distinctive and different set of collaborators – A BAND OF TABLET COMPUTERS and INTEL!

“Intelligent Sounds” is a brave attempt in technology which sees “Felix The Robot Conductor” and his tablet-powered band members, and their instruments come to life to perform the latest Flume original track created exclusively for this purpose.

As you can see from the video again, each “member” of Intelligent Sounds’ tablet was programmed with synthesized notes and triggered to play through on cue, while the robot arms were pre-programmed to press the required notes in time with the final song.

Flume has admitted that the “Intelligent Sounds” project was one of the more challenging yet more enjoyable task throughout his career.

“I love the challenge of writing music for a particular project and a defined theme. I find working within these boundaries inspires, rather than limits, creativity. This project was a great opportunity to showcase what can be achieved when technology, innovation and creativity come together,” he said.

So now, Intel invites all of you to live an unbelievable experience and to…Look Inside™!
