"The Smurfs 2" Movie Review
Introduction
Smurfette is originally created by Gargamel in
order to distract and trap the smurfs. But thanks to Papa Smurf, Smurfette was
able to become a real smurf.
In this 2nd movie, the evil wizard Gargamel has created a
few other mischievous Smurf-like creatures called the Naughties to kidnap
Smurfette in order to know the secret of turning Naughties into real smurfs.
Will the
Naughties be able to capture Smurfette?
Will Smurfette
tell Gargamel about the secret since he’s her creator?
What will the
other smurfs do to save Smurfette?
Let’s check out the movie in your

Review: (Summarized review: http://www.wljack.com/2013/08/movie-review-smurfs-2.html)
“The smurfs 2” is targeted at the hearts of children and has the similar
concept and plot like the one in the first movie. So, before you continue to
read the review, I would like to inform you that, those people who have never
liked the first movie, then this movie will most probably be a nuisance for you
too.
The storyline
in this movie is simple, straight forward and predictable. (Kidnap-and-rescue
type of plot) But it is fun enough to put on some laughter for the
light-hearted audience especially the kids. Besides, it has included the theme
of “family unconditional love” in it which is very meaningful especially for
family with children.
Apart from
that, the story has almost the same pacing and progression of plot like the
predecessor. First, they start off with a little introduction of some of the
smurfs. Then, they turned the spot light into the few selected and more notable
smurfs such as Clumsy, Vanity, Grouchy and of course Papa Smurf. If you love
the smurfs, it will definitely be a sweet treat for you as you would be able to
get a glimpse of the cute blue creatures again.
The
background music is cheerful and well-suited with the cartoonish nature of the
film too. Plus, there is a nice credit song sang by Britney Spears called, “Ooh La La”. Overall, I do enjoy the
musical score in this film.
The narration
of the smurf is great. The acting by the actors and actresses for human
character are acceptable, but nothing spectacular. However, the dialogue in the
film can be quite cheesy at certain times and some audience might find it a bit
annoying.
CGI effect is
almost the same like the first movie. Sometimes it might be a bit unrealistic
when the Smurfs are moving around in the human world. But it is understandable
because this is a cartoon adaptation after all.
Overall, it
is definitely an enjoyable movie for people who love the smurfs. But I think it
is a turnoff for those who never like these blue creatures before.
What
I like about the movie:
- Similar fun like the first movie
- Meaningful theme
- Catchy background music and score
- Good narration
What
I dislike about the movie:
- Predictable plot
- Cheesy dialogues
Verdict:
This movie deserves 6.0/10.0!
This movie deserves 6.0/10.0!
A
light-hearted fun for audience who loves the smurfs and a simple joy for the
kids!
Those who never like smurfs before, stay away from this movie!
